FACTS : PRIORITY LIST OF FUNGAL PATHOGENS

The WHO has published the first list of fungal pathogens which pose a danger to public health. It includes 19 fungal pathogens, which have been categorized into three, critical, high and medium priority. The classification is based on the public health impact and/or emerging antifungal resistance.



1) The critical priority fungi include candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus

2) The high priority group includes Histoplasma spp and some Candida spp.

3) The medium priority group includes Coccidioides spp and Paracoccidioides spp.
